Octopath Traveler sports a graphical aesthetic called “HD-2D,” combined with the retro Super NES style character sprites and textures with polygonal environments and great quality effects. It is because every character comes from a different part of the world and determines their job. Every character of the game starts their journey in different ways. You have to play the role of one out of eight adventurers in Octopath Traveler. There's moments where I'm like "wait, the rest of the party is just standing there right offscreen, watching this happen without comments?" The game adds a few "crossover" scenarios so your characters can interact, and occasionally party chats will pop up where someone is like "wow it sure sucks you just got stabbed in front of me, wish I could have done something but, you know, I figured it was your storyline and I shouldn't interfere."īut overall it feels awkward how everyone else in the party completely pops out of existence for any cutscenes in another person's story.Octopath Traveler Free Download PC: It is a role-playing and adventures game developed by Square Enix, with the collaboration of Acquire. In particular it's baffling that a game whose selling point is having eight main characters doesn't have a better way of integrating the characters you're not using - not only do you have to go back to an inn to switch, but they don't earn any XP, forcing you to grind them all up separately (and you need to use every character to reach the ending, so you're actually forced to do this.) It's weird when so many games have solved the problems of what to do with extra characters in various ways.Īlso, the fact that everyone's plotline is totally separate feels a bit awkward at times. It has good writing and decent gameplay, but sometimes its retro design is frustrating.
It's a decent game but it doesn't improve much on Octopath Traveler 1 - if you liked that game, this is basically more chapters of that, nothing more and nothing less.
